Review (by Malcolm Storey) | Rusts have the most complex life-cycles of any fungus, and the introduction consists mainly of discussion of life-cycles. This is followed by the key to genera, mainly based on teliospore. In practice this is not usually useful as telia are often absent - rusts are generally identified from the host plant. The species accounts are begin with descriptions and line drawings of the various spore types, followed by a general discussion on the species and the history of our knowledge. Host latin names are included in the index, which offer the main route to identification. |
Errata, Corrigenda & Comments | P239 states *Puccina urticata var urticae-ripariae*: "on *Carex riparia*, frequent" and "only known from two localities in Britain". |
Examine | Compound Microscope ( with x8 or x10 hand lens is also useful) |
