Review (by Malcolm Storey) | A guide to centipedes, with keys and descriptions. The diagnostic features are well illustrated with clear line drawings (although sometimes tedious to find as references only give the number of the figure.) The taxonomy is slightly out of date. Long out-of-print but now available on CD from Pisces Conservation. |
Examine | Stereo Microscope |
Specimen Preparation | Dead specimens in alcohol. Ideally Geophilomorphs should be first cleared by a few hours in 60% lactic acid. (The acid should be neutralised with ammonia and washed well before returning to alcohol storage.) |
Identification difficulty | Relatively straightforward although the coxal pores of Geophilomorphs are not clearly visible except in cleared specimens. |
