Review (by Malcolm Storey) | A nicely illustrated work in similar format to previous volumes in the series. This work covers the tribus Myceneae (in the traditional SInger sense, as the necessary DNA work has not yet been reported), with the exception of Mycena itself, which has already been recently covered by Maas Geesteranus (1992). A short key to genera of the Myceneae precedes the taxonomic part. The species are treated to very full accounts with synonymy and an (often long) list of collections examined. There are good colour photographs and line drawings of microscopy (eg spores, basidia and various cystidia and pellis elements). |
Examine | Compound Microscope |
Specimen Preparation | Slide preps of spores, cystidia etc |
Identification difficulty | Comparatively straightforward, although the large genus Hemimycena can be more challenging. |
