Review (by Malcolm Storey) | A handy booklet for the amateur covering all aspects of pollen microscopy. Includes worksheets and recipes for mountants etc. References to identification works are given. The target audience is botanists, entomologists and beekeepers seeking to identify fresh pollen. Appendix D describes the method used for the pollen preps photographed on BioImages. Archeologists and professional palynologists use hydrofluoric acid to clean pollen but this is far too toxic to use without proper laboratory facilities. Such techniques are not covered in this work. The booklet is available from Burnel Microscopes. |
