Title | Taxonomic revision and insights into the speciation mode of the spider Dysdera erythrina species-complex (Araneae : Dysderidae): sibling species with sympatric distributions |
Type | Paper |
How Complete | All the species known at the time |
Source | Invertebrate Systematics Vol 32 (1): 10-54. |
Illustrations | Line drawings, and colour and half-tone photomicrographs |
Review (by Malcolm Storey) | Splits Dysdera erythrina into 20 species, 16 of them new. Dysdera erythrina is the only one recorded from Britain or northern Europe, so the others are unlikely in our area. |
Errata, Corrigenda & Comments | Beware that 10 of the epigynes are drawn and 9 are photographed: you need to consider both the photomicrographs and the drawings. |
Examine | Stereo Microscope ( Compound Microscope is also useful) |
Specimen Preparation | Epigyne dissection required. (Easiest way is to remove abdomen, cut along the dorsal surface, open out and remove the loose tissues, then clean up by removing semi-transparent remnants, against a dark background under the stereo microscope.) |
