Notes:
Found: 15 May
Hatched: 22 May
Reared on Blood-veined Dock.
Larvae photographed: 23 May, 27 May, 1 June.
The larvae eat out the leaf between the veins leaving a lacework (see photo) but avoid dead brown parts. They eat the leaf fresh or wilted. When small, they keep together in groups, but they grow quickly. Giving them fresh leaves every two or three days they seem to need twice as much each time!
Unfortunately the other egg batch (see photos) was not removed so the larvae may include two species, although only one species emerged as adults.
First pupa seen on 6 June. Pupated amongst the debris in the bottom of the jar. About 40 adults emerged en masse 16 June. Sandy brown when first emerge, but soon colour up.
Adults also feed on dock leaves, but eat the veins too, so leave larger holes than the larvae.
