Notes:
Small punctate, pale orange-brown uredia, bursting through lower epidermis, each surrounded by a brown ring of paraphyses. Uredospores ±cylindric-ellipsoid, echinulate, thick-walled.
Telia similar but darker, dark brown to black. Teliospores: single-celled (mesospores), shortly ellipsoid, mid brown, stalked, with many pores.
There were also a few larger subcuticular uredia which were smooth and lacked the palisade of dark paraphyses. These might well be a different species of rust.
