Notes:

Adult newly emerged from log so still dusted in powdered wood.

Larvae identified by association with c. 10 adults that emerged over several days from two log sections brought indoors for firewood.

Larvae found in tunnels beneath the bark, but there are also holes, of elliptical cross-section, going directly into the heartwood. The abundant frass includes a very fine, dry, dry-wood-coloured dust, but pockets of larger fragments are present also.

Larvae extracted by careful removal of bark. Larvae without legs and unable to walk. Can be returned by gently pushing the tail end back into holes when they slowly pull themselves backwards into the tunnel by peristalsis. If left on the surface they die.
