Notes:
Black pycnia very evident on bright red upper surface of gall.
Aecia just beginning to burst through swollen orange lower surface.
Peridium lacerate, joined at tips into a cone which eventually opens out to form ring of radiating filaments, eventually lost - often before opening out.
Aeciospores brown, almost black en masse, polyhedral, thick-walled, with several pores, each in a small dimple.
