Notes:

Tough dark grey toadstool with rooting stipe and strong, persistent rancid mealy smell. Cap and stipe with patchy of streaky white-wash of superficial hyphae giving it a mottled appearance.

Spore print: white, non-amyloid.

Cap cuticle: narrow, thin-walled, hyaline, parallel, radiating, septate, unclamped, filamentous hyphae 3-6µm diam. Occasional more swollen and more branched hyphae with branches running in all directions are probably subcuticle.

Spores: smooth, ellipsoid, 7-8.5/4-4.5µm.
