Review (by Malcolm Storey)

Introductory chapters cover Classification and Relationships, Habitat Lists and Cook’s Guide.

A conventional indented Dichotomous Key to species is followed by a Multi-access Synoptic Key.

The major portion of the book consists of detailed species accounts facing line-drawings of the plant, leaves, flower, fruit (usually in dorsal and lateral views) and fruit TS.

10km distribution maps are presented two to a page, but these are now superseded by the later BSBI Atlas.

Specimen PreparationFresh or pressed, but ideally with ripe fruits.
Identification difficultyGenerally straightforward, at least if ripe fruits are present.
