Review (by Malcolm Storey) | An old work covering the entire British Lepidopterous fauna in a single volume. The keys are succinct. They make much use of wing venation for the higher taxa. At species level, sometimes only one sex can be keyed out. E. W. Classey published a reprint in 1968. The 1895 edition is on-line at Biodiversity Heritage Library. |
Examine | with x8 or x10 hand lens ( Stereo Microscope is also useful) |
Specimen Preparation | Pinned and set specimens. Wing venation is best observed on the underside. Until you’ve got your eye in you may need to remove and descale the wing (see p8). |
