Title | Unlocking environmental keys to host specificity: differential tolerance of acidity and nitrate by Alnus-associated ectomycorrhizal fungi |

Review (by Malcolm Storey) | Alders tend to support a small suite of host-specific ectomycorrhizal fungi rather than more generalist species. Culture evidence suggest this may be related to the soil having high nitrogen (Alder root galls contain Frankiella alni which fixes nitrogen) and high acidity. |
