The Field Mushroom is the mushroom traditionally collected from pasture in the late summer. It is now much rarer due to the loss of unimproved pasture but where it does still occur it is often abundant. It can be recognised by the bright pink young gills, even in the ’button’ stage, the absence of a pale gill edge (no marginal cystidia) and the small thin ring which almost disappears.
