OOMYCETES (a group of mainly plant-parasitic "fungi") may be included in identification literature listed under the following higher taxa:
NBN (data.nbn.org.uk) has a distribution map for OOMYCETES (a group of mainly plant-parasitic "fungi") |
BioInfo (www.bioinfo.org.uk) has 2 host/parasite/foodplant and/or other relationships for OOMYCETES (a group of mainly plant-parasitic "fungi") |
The Oomycetes are commonly studied by mycologists, but are not true fungi, being more closely related to algae.
Oomycetes can usually be readily distinguished from true fungi. In cases of doubt, under the microscope Oomycetes are mostly non-staining in Cotton Blue whereas true fungi generally stain strongly.
