A handsome large ichneumon.
The slim male is mainly black with an ivory scutellum, tergites 2 and 3 can be black or red, but the narrow ivory bands on the tips of all tergites are more constant. The face has cream or white marks and the legs are extensively ivory or white, especially the tarsi. The red form could be confused with the female of Diphyus amatorius.
The female is a stouter, darker insect with orange confined to tergites 2 and 3.
