Coelomycetes with pycnidia separate (ie not in a stroma) and containing oblong to linear conidia with blunt ends. The conidia have at least two(often many) septa, between which the cells are usually inflated and generally contain guttules which are often large.
Stagonospora mostly grow on dead stems and leaves but a few attack living plant material.
