Phaeolus schweinitzii (Dyer’s Bracket, Dyer’s Mazegill) may be included in identification literature listed under the following higher taxa:

NBNNBN (data.nbn.org.uk) has a distribution map for Phaeolus schweinitzii (Dyer’s Bracket, Dyer’s Mazegill)
BioInfoBioInfo (www.bioinfo.org.uk) has 22 host/parasite/foodplant and/or other relationships for Phaeolus schweinitzii (Dyer’s Bracket, Dyer’s Mazegill)

The toadstool-like brackets of this fungal pathogen are a familiar sight at the base of Pine (Pinus) trees, although it attacks a broad range of coniferous and rarely broadleaved trees. It causes a brown rot, particularly at the base of the trunk (butt rot) which makes the tree unsafe.
