A small to medium-sized waxcap with decurrent gills and a hygrophanous, slightly greasy cap with a brownish central spot and more or less distinct brownish radial striation. It often grows in troops in grassland, at roadsides and in fixed dunes almost always on lime-rich soil. It is widespread but less common than var virginea.
