A Leptonia with a dirty brown, strongly pellucid-striate, radially fibrous-scaly cap with a dark centre. It is found among grasses and mosses in seminatural grassland, meadows etc but sometimes also at roadsides or in humus in deciduous woodland, especially on calcareous soils but also on relatively acid, sandy, peaty or gravelly soils. It is widespread and locally common.
